At the same time, he joined the gold refining business by setting up the Affimet Gold Refinery Company in the Republic of Burundi where he was the General

Manager for 7 years until 1994. The refinery was in full operation with 120 employees and a turnover of more than 100 Million USD in 1993 and has produced 10 tons of refined gold bars.

Mr. Goetz later joined the banking sector as the General Managerof African Bank of Commerce (ABC) a fully licensed commercial offshore bank and the first offshore bank inthe East African region from 1994 – 1997.

He then moved to the Airline industry as the General Manager of City Connexion Airlines based in Burundi and CCA Airlines in DRC, operating out of Bujumbura International Airport with interline agreements with Sabena and Uganda Airlines.To service the Airline industry, Alain Goetz started the CCA Maintenance Aircraft Maintenance Facility based in Vereeniging, South Africa which was licensed by Burundi,Rwanda, DRC and Swaziland Aviation Authorities where he oversaw operations from 1998-2001.

In 2001 he joined his father’s company as Partner and Managing Director of Tony Goetz NV, Antwerp Belgium. Tony Goetz NV had a turnover of over 2 billion USD in 2011 and is a leading precious metals trading and refining company in Belgium. He led the company for 10 years before moving to Dubai.

In Dubai, Goetz started Goetz Gold LLC, a company focused on buying and selling gold and other precious metals in 2013. He served as CEO of the company until March 2019.

Mr. Goetz oversaw the establishment of the African Gold Refinery (AGR) in 2014 as the first state of the art gold refinery in Uganda and Sub-Saharan Africa with a production capacity of 600 kgs of high-finished gold kilo-bars per day that is internationally recognized as Uganda products. The Facility is situated on a 5.5 acres piece land and employs 85 staff at all levels of their operations. In 2016 AGR generated 1.8 billion Ugandan shillings in government revenue paid and major inward investment of over $23 million.

It was the first complaint and transparent initiative in Uganda’s gold sector where players were exporting raw gold. The state-of-the-art refining facility is located in Entebbe next to the Entebbe International Airport and was officially launched by H.E. the President Yoweri Museveni in February 2017. AGR offers five majors standard quality services including smelting, assaying, refining, manufacturing and logistics.

On the U.N Security Council report S/2017/672/Rev.1, dated: 16 August 2017 it’s been quoted that: “The Group therefore believes that AGR could contribute to a cleaner gold trade in Uganda”, which the AGR does till date.

In November 2018 Alain Goetz stepped down as founding CEO, a position he had held since 2014.
